PEORIA, Ariz. Drivers and residents near Northern Avenue should plan for 10-day closures at the entrances to 110th and 112th avenues beginning Monday morning.

The two avenues just north of Northern Avenue are scheduled to close continuously from 5 a.m. Sept. 14 through 5 p.m. Sept. 24, according to the Maricopa County Department of Transportation. The work is part of the Northern Parkway corridor project between the Agua Fria River and 103rd Avenue.

Neighborhood access will remain available using 111th Avenue and 107th Avenue to Butler Drive. MCDOT said detour signs will guide motorists around the closed entrances. Northern Avenue remains reduced to one lane in each direction through the active work area.

What crews are doing

The closure is needed for utility work, new sidewalks and ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. MCDOT said it does not anticipate utility service outages during the work.

A separate closure at the entrance to 109th Avenue is anticipated later in September. The county has not announced dates for that restriction and said more details will be released when available.

Drivers should allow additional travel time, reduce speed and watch for crews and temporary traffic controls. The schedule may change because of weather, equipment problems or other construction conditions.

Part of a yearlong Northern Avenue project

Construction on this segment began in February and is expected to continue into early 2027. The broader work includes rebuilding pavement, adding turn lanes and signal improvements at 107th Avenue, constructing sidewalks between 112th and 103rd avenues, installing roadway lighting and adding landscaping.

The project is one of the final construction segments in the 12.5-mile Northern Parkway corridor, which connects the Loop 303 area with U.S. 60. The county says access to properties will be maintained while construction continues, although lane shifts and short-term turning restrictions may occur.

MCDOT lists its project information line at 602-506-3342 and email at MCDOTProjects@maricopa.gov.
