Lufthansa will launch the first nonstop flights between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Munich on Aug. 3, 2027, adding a year-round European connection for travelers across the West Valley and metro Phoenix.
The airline announced the route Tuesday, Oct. 20. Flights are scheduled three days a week on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays aboard a 293-seat Airbus A350-900. Lufthansa said the service is available for booking beginning Oct. 20 as part of its summer 2027 schedule.
Phoenix–Munich flight schedule
The published schedule uses local time at each airport:
- Munich to Phoenix: Depart Munich at 1:20 p.m. and arrive at Sky Harbor at 4 p.m.
- Phoenix to Munich: Depart Sky Harbor at 5:50 p.m. and arrive in Munich at 1:25 p.m. the next day.
The aircraft is planned with 48 business-class seats, 21 premium-economy seats and 224 economy seats. If Lufthansa operates that capacity and frequency for a full year, the route would provide about 91,400 scheduled seat departures across both directions. That calculation reflects the announced schedule, not projected ticket sales or passenger totals.
Flight times, aircraft assignments and operating dates can change before service begins. Travelers should confirm details with Lufthansa when booking.
A new European gateway from Arizona
Munich will give Arizona travelers another nonstop destination in Germany and a new connecting hub. Phoenix Sky Harbor said passengers will be able to connect through Munich to destinations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, as well as flights operated by Star Alliance partners.
Lufthansa described Phoenix as a new addition to a broader expansion of its 2027 network. The airline said the summer program is its largest route expansion since 2020, with 10 new long-haul routes across Lufthansa Group carriers.
The Phoenix service also restores Lufthansa-branded passenger flights to Sky Harbor. The airport described Munich as the airline’s first nonstop route between the two cities and the first Phoenix connection to a Lufthansa Group hub.
What the route means for the region
Sky Harbor is the primary commercial airport for the Phoenix region, including West Valley communities. A nonstop Munich flight removes the need for a domestic or European connection for travelers whose destination is Bavaria and creates another one-stop path to cities beyond Munich.
The airport estimates the new service will generate $81.2 million in annual economic activity for the Phoenix community. That figure is an airport estimate, not a guaranteed amount. Sky Harbor’s latest economic-impact study estimates all international flights contribute more than $3.4 billion a year to the local economy.
The announcement establishes the route and booking availability, but the first flight is still more than nine months away. The next milestones are the airline’s final operating schedule and the start of service on Aug. 3, 2027.
