MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. Adoption fees for every dog at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control will be cut in half for one week beginning Monday.

The county announced the “Aiming for Another Shot at Love” adoption event Sunday. The discount runs Sept. 14 through Sept. 20 at MCACC’s East and West shelters and its Everyday Adoption Center in Scottsdale.

All three locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the event, according to the county announcement. The promotion applies to all dogs. MCACC did not publish a single promotional dollar amount in its announcement.

Where to adopt

  • West Shelter: 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phoenix.
  • East Shelter: 1920 S. Lewis, Mesa.
  • Everyday Adoption Center: 4380 N. Miller Road, Scottsdale, inside PetSmart.

Prospective adopters can review available animals through the MCACC website before visiting. Because animals can be adopted or transferred throughout the day, online listings and availability may change.

The weeklong discount is sponsored by donor Ames McGarey, who also partnered with the county on the event last year. MCACC said the goal is to move more dogs into permanent homes as the shelter system comes out of its busy summer season.

A new West Valley shelter is under construction

The current West Shelter is on 27th Avenue near Lower Buckeye Road. Maricopa County is separately building a much larger animal-care campus in Glendale at 10139 W. Northern Ave., near the Loop 101.

The county broke ground in June on that approximately 94,000-square-foot enclosed facility. Plans call for more than 600 kennels, a veterinary clinic, adoption and intake areas, foster and release space, play yards and low-stimulation housing for fearful dogs. The county projects an opening in May 2028.

The future Glendale campus does not affect the locations for this week’s promotion. Anyone adopting Sept. 14-20 should use the three currently operating centers listed above.
