Grand Avenue narrows nightly in Glendale through Friday morning

Westbound Grand Avenue will narrow to one lane between 57th Drive and Northern Avenue nightly through Friday morning for pavement work.

Westbound Grand Avenue will be narrowed to one lane between 57th Drive and Northern Avenue overnight through Friday morning as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues pavement work in Glendale.

ADOT’s updated project notice schedules the restriction from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, ending Friday morning, Oct. 16. The agency said the notice revises the limits and dates of work that had previously been planned for Oct. 6-9.

Drivers should be prepared to slow down and merge approaching the work zone. The restriction reduces westbound traffic to a single lane but does not close Grand Avenue.

What drivers should expect

This particular restriction ends at 5 a.m. each morning. ADOT says access to homes and businesses will be maintained during the broader project, although temporary restrictions may affect Grand Avenue and its cross streets.

The work overlaps with separate nighttime restrictions on eastbound Loop 101 in Glendale. That freeway will be reduced to two lanes from 59th to 51st avenues from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday night through Friday morning, Oct. 13-16. The eastbound exits at 59th and 51st avenues also are scheduled to close during those periods. West Valley Post has the Loop 101 schedule here.

Part of an 11-mile pavement project

The Grand Avenue restriction is part of an 11-mile ADOT rehabilitation project extending from 85th Avenue to Interstate 17. Crews are removing and replacing worn asphalt, installing new lane striping and pavement markings, and modifying sidewalk curb ramps where needed to meet accessibility standards.

Construction began in early May 2026 and is expected to take about nine months, according to ADOT. The agency says the schedule may change because of weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Drivers can check the ADOT project page and AZ511 before traveling for the latest restrictions.
