Eastbound Loop 303 will close between 43rd Avenue and Interstate 17 for the full weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, until 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The shutdown will cut the direct eastbound connection into I-17 while crews continue work on the Loop 303 system interchange in north Phoenix. Drivers from Peoria, Surprise and the northwest Valley who use Loop 303 to reach I-17 should plan for a surface-street detour and extra travel time.

Loop 303 detour and closure schedule

During the weekend closure, ADOT directs eastbound drivers to use northbound 43rd Avenue and eastbound Dove Valley Road. From Dove Valley Road, motorists can reach northbound or southbound I-17. Drivers headed toward Sonoran Desert Drive can continue east on Dove Valley Road, turn south on North Valley Parkway and connect with Sonoran Desert Drive.

Nightly lane restrictions begin before the weekend shutdown. Eastbound Loop 303 is scheduled to narrow to one lane between 43rd Avenue and I-17 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday through Friday mornings, ending Nov. 6.

Westbound Loop 303 will then close between I-17 and 43rd Avenue from 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10. ADOT’s westbound detour uses the northbound I-17 frontage road, westbound Dove Valley Road and southbound 43rd Avenue.

More eastbound closures are already scheduled. The same 43rd Avenue-to-I-17 segment is set to close from 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, to 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, and again from 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, until 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16.

A 15-foot vehicle-height restriction remains in place on eastbound Loop 303 through early December. The work-zone speed limit is 55 mph.

I-10 restrictions also affect West Valley travel

ADOT also lists overnight restrictions on eastbound Interstate 10 this week. The freeway is scheduled to narrow to two lanes between Avondale Boulevard and 75th Avenue from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, to 5 a.m. Thursday. A second two-lane restriction is scheduled between 107th and 75th avenues from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

Drivers should check AZ 511 before leaving because construction schedules can change for weather or other conditions.

Work is building direct Loop 303-I-17 ramps

The restrictions are part of ADOT’s $129 million project to add direct freeway-to-freeway ramps at I-17 and Loop 303 and widen Loop 303 between I-17 and 51st Avenue. The project also includes bridges for a future interchange at 67th Avenue. ADOT expects completion in 2028.

The work is the first freeway project funded through Maricopa County’s Proposition 479 transportation plan. West Valley Post tracks this construction and the corridor’s other major projects in the Loop 303 Development and Infrastructure Tracker.
