Spark Surprise business hub opens at City Center

Surprise is opening a city-backed business center with free membership, coworking space, mentoring, meeting rooms and a podcast studio.

The City of Surprise is formally opening Spark Surprise on Thursday, Oct. 1, giving West Valley entrepreneurs a permanent place for coworking, mentoring, business classes and access to city economic-development resources.

The city-backed business center is at 14462 W. Elm St., Suite 143, in Surprise City Center. A public grand-opening event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the City of Surprise announcement.

Spark’s official website says membership is free. The center is designed for startups, established small businesses and people preparing to launch a business, with services intended to reduce the need to find separate providers for basic guidance, workspace and training.

What members can use

The center lists shared work areas, private offices, meeting and conference rooms, breakout spaces and a media and podcast studio among its facilities. Other advertised member resources include high-speed internet, printing, networking events, business mentoring and assistance for companies exploring international markets.

Businesses can also use Surprise’s existing small-business services through the center, including one-on-one coaching, licensing information, a local market research tool and connections to partner organizations. The city maintains a small-business resource page for those services.

Membership applications, tours and room reservations are handled online through the Spark website. The center can also be reached at 623-222-3333. Individual rooms, programs and events may have separate schedules or reservation requirements even though membership itself is advertised as free.

A permanent home for an existing program

The Oct. 1 ceremony marks the formal opening of the finished City Center location, but Spark programming began before the ribbon cutting. The initiative has already hosted business-finance sessions, workforce training, international business events and workshops with regional partners.

Construction on the center was completed in July, according to Spark’s project update. The finished space turns a city business-assistance program into a physical hub where entrepreneurs can work, attend classes and meet advisers in one location.

The address places Spark on Elm Street near the growing civic and commercial core around Surprise City Center. The city is using the center as part of its broader economic-development strategy, with an emphasis on helping local companies start, remain in Surprise and expand.

Upcoming programs

The center’s current calendar includes Maricopa County Vendor University on Oct. 14 and a lender meet-and-greet on Nov. 18. Programs and registration details are posted on the Spark Surprise website.

For residents evaluating the service, the most practical first step is to submit the free membership form or book a tour. Those options provide current access details without requiring a visit during the grand-opening event.
