Buckeye starts $17.6M Victory Fire Station 709

Buckeye broke ground on a $17.6 million fire station serving Verrado and Victory, with construction scheduled through summer 2027.

By Published

Buckeye broke ground Oct. 5 on a $17.6 million fire station that will expand emergency-response coverage for Verrado, Victory and nearby neighborhoods in the city’s fast-growing northeast.

The city announced the construction milestone Oct. 6. Victory Fire Station 709 is planned for 20340 W. Indian School Road, at the northwest corner of Indian School Road and Acacia Way.

The project is now under construction. It is not yet open, and Buckeye has not announced an exact opening date or staffing plan.

What Buckeye is building

City project records describe a two-story, 15,000-square-foot firehouse on approximately 1.5 acres. The station will include three apparatus bays, providing space for emergency vehicles, though the city’s announcement does not specify which apparatus will be assigned there at opening.

The published project cost is $17.6 million. Buckeye’s capital-project page lists the construction timeline as running through summer 2027. That is a project schedule rather than a guaranteed operational date.

Station 709 will be Buckeye’s eighth city fire station. Its location places it north of Interstate 10 and east of Verrado Way, near residential growth in Verrado and the Victory district.

Part of Buckeye’s voter-approved public-safety buildout

The station is being funded through Buckeye’s voter-approved 2024 general-obligation bond program. The city’s bond-project overview also identifies a Westpark fire station and a new public-safety headquarters among the program’s fire and police investments.

General-obligation bonds let a city borrow for long-lived public facilities and repay the debt over time. For residents, the Oct. 5 groundbreaking is the point at which Station 709 moved from planning and procurement into visible construction.

The three apparatus bays create room for more than one emergency vehicle, but the building’s final effect on response times will depend on staffing, equipment assignments, dispatch patterns and when the station becomes operational. Buckeye has not published those details in the records reviewed for this article.

What happens next

Construction is scheduled to continue into summer 2027. The practical milestones to watch are completion of the building, delivery of equipment, assignment of crews and the city’s eventual in-service date.

The project joins road, water, parks and public-safety investments being built as Buckeye adds homes and commercial development across a large geographic area. West Valley Post is tracking those projects on the Buckeye Development Tracker.
